Set in the 7th century AD, Silkroad Online is set during the silkroad period. As you may know, silk used to be an extremely rare and extremely valuable commodity for Europeans of that time.
Silkroad Online is a MMORPG, meaning it puts you directly in contact with other players. You are invited to level your characters through quests and grinding, the act of killing mobs. There is also a large PvP aspect of the game where you are invited to kill other players.

Silkroad can most likely be compared to World of Warcraft, another MMORPG, in terms of gameplay and graphics. Silkroad Online offers a completly different PvP (player versus player) system however as it is a triangular system.
There are three main jobs: Thieves, Traders, Hunters. Thieves attack Traders, Traders complete trade runs and hunters kill thieves. For this very reason, Silkroad appeal to a large variety of players: quick attackers will prefer to play a thief, calm pve players will prefer to play traders and justiciers will prefer to be hunters.
There are several ways to level for the three jobs. Thieves gain experience by killing traders (and hunters) and they gain gold by plundering traders. Hunters get experience and gold by killing thieves and traders get experience by trade runs, bringing silk amongst others, to specific zones.
Silkroad also offers some great pve story although it has been noted the story and quests are sub-par. Quests are often repetivive and consist of grinding. Leveling in general can be extremely long, although most settings set while leveling can be reset later (for a large cost though), unlike other RPGs like Diablo 2.
Leveling on Silkroad can be extremely long and frustrating due to its repetitive nature. For this very reason, the usage of a bot is strongly recommended.
